Gerald Wallace Out for Tonight's Game; Keith Bogans Will Start For Him

According the Nets' PR Department's official Twitter account (@Nets_PR), the ankle injury that Gerald Wallace suffered attempting to block a shot in Saturday's season-opening win over Toronto will cause him to miss tonight's game against the Timberwolves. Keith Bogans will start at the small forward position in Gerald's stead.

Josh Childress Out For Saturday's Opener Against Toronto

The Nets picked up Childress over the summer for the veteran's minimum, on a low-risk, medium-reward kind of signing
On Saturday night, when they open up the Barclays Center against the Raptors, the Nets will be without one of their offseason pickups. Josh Childress is expected to miss the game due to soreness he is experiencing in his sprained left ankle. Childress aggravated the ankle in the the Nets' last preseason game, a loss to the Knicks at Nassau Coliseum on October 24th.

MarShon Brooks Aggravates Foot Injury, Preseason Return Doubtful

Another season, another injury for the Nets
Bad news coming out of Nets' camp today as the team announced, via Twitter, that sophomore shooting guard, and noted swaggerking, MarShon Brooks has aggravated a prior right foot injury and will be out for 7-10 days. This means that Brooks probably won't play in any of the team's six preseason games for precautionary reasons but that he will most likely be fine for the regular season opener on November 1st.

The Nets, always a team that has extreme issues in staying healthy, can't really afford for their best bench scoring option in Brooks to be out of the line-up for a long time so they need him for their much-anticipated meeting with the Knicks in the official NBA christening of the Barclays Center. Makes sense to hold him out of the meaningless preseason.

Jordan Farmar Done for Season

According to Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork.com, the Nets have announced that Jordan Farmar will in fact miss the rest of the season with his groin injury. This has been hinted at by Farmar for awhile and now it's official. Looks like we will be subjected to Sundiata Gaines for the rest of the season as out sole back-up point guard. Uh oh.

Injury Update: Jordan Farmar Might Be Done For Season

Farmar is crucial to the Nets' success so they will undoubtedly struggle with his absence
According to the New York Post's Tim Bontemps, Jordan Farmar will miss the Nets' next six games and might be out even more than that with his right groin injury. Before playing in Friday's and Saturday's games vs the Hawks and Bobcats respectively, Farmar had missed the previous four games with the same groin injury so it appears that he reaggravated it in his short return to the court. Obviously, this is bad news as it means more Sundiata Gaines, like a lot more because of the non-renewal of Jerry Smith's 10-day contract. Uh oh.

Shawne Williams Done for Season

No preview for tonight's big game with the Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard at the Prudential Center but I do have some injury news to share. As expected, Shawne Williams' foot injury and resulting surgery will keep him out for the rest of this season. Williams' season-ending injury is the Nets' league-leading 3rd so far from this condensed 2011-12 NBA season as he joins Keith Bogans and Damion James as the other injury victims.

Injury Update: Mehmet Okur Out Until After All-Star Break

This isn't really breaking news but per The Record's Andy Vasquez (part about Okur is at bottom of the article in the link), Nets' injured center Mehmet Okur's back injury will keep him out of game action until after the All-Star break. Okur has missed 13 games already with his injury and at some points during the recent losing streak, the team has sorely missed his size on the interior and his ability to stretch the defense with his solid jump-shooting ability.

Brook Lopez Questionable for Today's Game In Chicago; Wait, What?

We missed you Brook. Like, we seriously really missed you and are begging that you can be as good as you were last season. Sorry for seeming a little obsessive, but we really, really missed you Brook.
According to a tweet by the Nets' public relations official Twitter account, the injured Brook Lopez has about a 50-50 chance of playing in today's afternoon game against the NBA-leading Chicago Bulls. When a player is considered to be "questionable" in mostly the NFL and NBA, they are likely to be given a 50-50 shot of playing in the said game.

With that being said, I was utterly surprised and simultaneously energized after seeing this tweet simply because this Nets team needs someone like Lopez to end this eight-game losing streak. Finally, it seems like this team might be getting a break regarding injuries as Lopez as already missed 8 weeks since his foot surgery which acts as the latest expected return date for Brook after his doctors prognosticated between a "6-8 week" recovery period. If he does indeed play tomorrow which is unclear at the moment, then Lopez will have missed the Nets' first 31 games of the season, 31 games in which the Nets have only had 8 wins and have been desperately lacking a consistent interior post-scoring presence which Brook definitely provides on the court.

Keith Bogans Fractures Ankle and Tears Ligament, Is Done for Season

Bogans is yet another casualty of the absurd amount of injuries the Nets have suffered so far this season
After playing only five games for the Nets since being signed a little more than a week ago, shooting guard Keith Bogans, who fractured his left ankle and tore his left deltoid ligament in last night's loss to the Pistons (recap here), is out for the season with his injuries. Bogans suffered the two gruesome injuries in the 4th quarter of last night's game when he awkwardly stepped on his foot while trying to defend a Greg Monroe dunk attempt. Bogans, an 11-year NBA veteran, was averaging around 4 points and 2 rebounds a game for the Nets in his limited stint with the team.

The injury is simply devastating to Bogans' NBA career and really hinders the Nets' depth as a whole as the team only has nine healthy players on the roster right now. Bogans is 31 years old and as been very injury-prone throughout his career so a freak injury like the one he suffered last night could be a potential signal to Bogans and the rest of the league that Keith's body just can't take the strain of the physical NBA anymore. Personally, I expect to hear a retirement announcement from Bogans soon as I think it would be the best option for himself in order to preserve the physical health he has now instead of risking the loss of it with another NBA season and, potentially, another terrible injury.

Losing Bogans is too bad because I liked his style of play defensively as he seemed to be one of few Nets at times to show any semblance of defensive prowess or even effort. As for who the Nets will either sign or call-up from the D-League to replace Bogans, I think that the best choice would be to simply call Larry Owens, whom the Nets waived to make room for Bogans, back up to New Jersey but as the D-League rules allow, the Nets can basically call-up any D-Leaguer from any of the NBDL teams that hasn't been sent down by an NBA team.

Injury Updates for Tonight's Game #21: Nets vs Raptors

The injuries keep flowing for each of these teams as Leandro Barbosa is now officially out for tonight's game with a sore ankle, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Mike Mazzeo. As stated in my preview for tonight's game, Andrea Bargnani is also out for the game tonight with a calf injury. The Raptors don't have much offensive firepower with those two guys out of the line-up.

Regarding the Nets, Brook Lopez and Mehmet Okur are both out for tonight's game and Okur is expected back in a few games while Brook is expected back sometime in early February. There is also good news for the Nets in terms of Marshon Brooks' Achilles. Brooks has been cleared to play tonight but will play only "limited minutes" according to The Record's Andy Vasquez. Personally, I have no clue why Avery is risking the reaggravation of Marshon's Achilles, especially against a under-talented and under-manned Toronto team, but I guess he felt that Marshon needs to get rid of some of the rust that he has accumulated during his absence from the line-up.

More Nets Injury Woes; Damion James Done For Season

James had a promising future with the Nets, but sometimes things just don't work out
The Nets were dealt some more tough injury news today as it was announced that Damion James' foot surgery, which was performed earlier today at Indiana Health Hospital in Indianapolis, will indeed sideline him for the rest of the 2011-12 season. James has played well so far in his short NBA career and has shown that he can get the dirty work done on the boards and on defense that many other players in the NBA, and especially on the Nets, simply aren't willing to do.

However, James simply hasn't been able to stay healthy for extended periods of time so far in his NBA time. At multiple points last season, Damion was sidelined for extended swaths of games mainly due to injuries he suffered on the right foot that is plaguing him right now. The news of this injury's severity is bad news for the Nets and James alike because the Nets miss Damion's toughness in the interior and his ability to guard some of the opposition's best players and do so with moderate success.

Injury Update: Damion James to Undergo Surgery, Shawne Williams Expected Back Soon

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, small forward Damion James will undergo surgery on his right foot on Tuesday to replace a screw that was already implanted in James' foot last season. There is no timetable for his return. This is tough news for the Nets as James is a solid defender and rebounder but he can never seem to stay healthy since the Nets acquired him during the 2010 Draft out of Texas.

The Nets also received some good news regarding injuries today as it appears that Shawne Williams will play limited minutes tomorrow against Charlotte (same link as above). Having Shawne Williams back in the line-up gives the Nets another shooter and big body to hopefully break the team out of its extended shooting slump.
