Netlinked 8/28/12: Former Nets Edition And More

Oh boy do I miss that guy. Remember when we called him Veal Scalapini? No? Ok, maybe that was just my dad and I
Former Net, and current league-wide, fan favorite Brian Scalabrine is close to joining the Chicago Bulls' coaching staff as an assistant. I knew he was a good bench cheerleader but assistant coach? Kinda surprising.

Ex-Net point guard Jacque Vaughn, who played with the Nets from 2004-06, has been hired by the Orlando Magic to succeed Stan Van Gundy as their head coach.

Yet another former Net, forward Eduardo Najera, has officially retired from the NBA to serve as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks' D-League affiliate, the Texas Legends. He will also hold an ownership stake in the Legends and will serve in some capacity in the Mavs' front office.

Shelden Williams has signed with Elan Chalon, a French team. In 58 games with the Nets last year, the Duke product averaged 4.6 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game.

More links after the jump:
The Houston Rockets have waived Sean Williams, whom the Nets drafted 17th overall out of Boston College in the 2007 NBA draft.

After being traded to the Atlanta Hawks as part of this summer's Joe Johnson trade, Jordan Farmar was bought out of his contract with the Hawks and signed with Anadolu Efes, a Turkish team based in Istanbul.

New Net C.J. Watson is participating in Basketball Without Borders this summer and is traveling through Africa to lead basketball camps and build houses.

Matt Moore, of CBSSports.com, Hardwood Paroxysm, and ProBasketballTalk fame, recorded a massive, two-part podcast previewing the New York City basketball teams, the Nets and Knicks. Among the guests, Al Iannazzone of Newsday, Devin Kharpertian of NetsAreScorching.com, and Howard Beck of the New York Times.

Marshon Brooks, like Watson, is participating in Basketball With Boards as well this summer and is heading to Russia to run a basketball camp.

Paul Lukas, who runs Uniwatch, the site that exclusively covers sports team's jerseys, ranked the jerseys of all 30 NBA teams for ESPN. Unfortunately, the Nets's 2012 unis were ranked 29th, good for second-to-last above the Sacramento Kings. Lukas also ranked all 122 professional teams in the Big 4 sports (NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL) for their jerseys, and the Nets rolled in at 120th, only ahead of the Kings (122nd) and the Cincinnati Bengals (121th).

To wrap up this edition of Netlinked, here's a video of DeShawn Stevenson playing in an Orlando pro-am. I'm changing up Manny being Manny to DeShawn being DeShawn, I think it makes more sense.
